Frequently Asked Questions
Still have a question? Contact BMA Electrics and we’ll help you work out the next step.
What does a switchboard upgrade include?
The scope depends on the existing board and property. It may include a new enclosure, RCBOs or circuit breakers, safety switches, earthing checks, circuit labelling, testing and correction of identified defects.
How do I know if my switchboard is outdated?
Common signs include ceramic fuses, missing safety-switch protection, frequent tripping, visible damage, limited spare capacity or a board that cannot support planned renovations and new appliances. An inspection provides a clear answer.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Timing depends on the board, access and any defects found. BMA Electrics will confirm the expected duration and power interruption after assessing the property.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Yes, the supply normally needs to be isolated for switchboard work. We plan the outage and explain the expected downtime before starting.
What is an RCBO?
An RCBO combines circuit-breaker protection with residual-current protection. It helps protect a circuit from overloads, short circuits and certain electric-shock risks.
Can you upgrade the switchboard before a renovation or EV charger?
Yes. We can assess the existing board and available capacity before new appliances, renovations, air conditioning, pool equipment or EV charging are added.
Will I receive certification?
BMA Electrics will provide the certificates or records required for the completed work and explain any further action needed.
